How is it possible to access company information in Panama?

Legal entities upon their incorporation are required to be registered before the Mercantile Section of the Public Registry of Panama. The Public Registry is the entity in charge of filing the Company’s information and Public Deeds. This information can be viewed in the web page of the Public Registry of Panama.

To access a company’s information in the Public Registry you need to access https://www.rp.gob.pa and create an account.

Once the account is created, you can search for the specific Company by its name or by its specific ID number (Folio) that all companies registered in Panama are assigned upon their incorporation.

All information available is in Spanish at the website.

What company information is publicly available in Panama?

On the Company’s page in the Public Registry, you can view the following information:

What other company-related information is available in Panama?

Real Estate: Real Estate information is available through the Public Registry page, but to access it you need to search by the ID (Folio) of the property. On the page of the property you may access information like its location, value, owner and any mortgages or other documents of the property.

Intellectual Property: Intellectual Property of a company can be viewed and accessed through the web page of the General Directorate of the Industrial Property Registry (DIGERPI) of the Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MICI) https://www.digerpi.gob.pa/cms/ . Through the website you may access a company’s registered patents, trademarks, and other intellectual property registered in DIGERPI.

Commercial License: Most companies in Panama are required to have a Commercial License to do business in Panama. Commercial License information may be accessed through the “Panamaemprende” platform by the Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MICI) in the following webpage: https://www.panamaemprende.gob.pa/. The information included in the Commercial License is the following:

  • Commercial License Number
  • Business Name of the Company
  • Legal Representative
  • Tax ID
  • Starting date of business operations
  • Business activities
  • Address of the establishment

Is it possible in Panama to obtain information on pending litigation against a company, its shareholders or legal representatives?

In Panama it is possible to access online the information of pending procedures on https://www.organojudicial.gob.pa/consultas-y-aplicaciones. To access said information you must provide the name of the Parties involved in the litigation.

Only general information of the litigation process is available. It is not possible to access the documents of the litigation without being an involved Party or a lawyer with a generated case file key.

Physically, at the courts, the litigation files are public for any lawyer or authorized person to view the file and its documents.
